Inventory shipments can be used in two different ways: (1) as a Retailer, you can receive new inventory into your Point of Sale using Inventory Shipments, and (2) as a Wholesaler, you can move inventory from one location to another.
Inventory Shipments without Deliveries
Inventory shipments can be created without requesting a delivery if you do not need a Blackbird driver to physically move the inventory on the shipment from one location to another. In this case, inventory shipments without deliveries can be used to make up for inventory discrepancies due to incorrect quantities.
In the past, this use case was often referred to as a Ghost Transfer, which is no longer required. Rather, you can create an inventory shipment that a Blackbird location can receive without requesting a delivery, especially if the inventory does not need to be physically delivered from one location to another.
Inventory Shipments with Deliveries
Inventory shipments can also be created with a deliveries requested on them. If the inventory on the shipment needs to be physically picked up and delivered to another location, you will want to request a delivery on the shipment so that a Blackbird operations team is made aware of the request. Otherwise, we will not be notified that you have inventory you need picked up and transferred to another location.
Request a Delivery on an Inventory Shipment
Once your inventory shipment is finished and no other changes need to be made, simply change the status from Pending to Ready in Review.
Next, select the Create Delivery button to begin your request.
Here, you will be prompted with the New Delivery form. Complete the necessary fields, including Invoice Number, Parcel Count, add any applicable Invoices & Attachments, determine if you would like Payment Collection, and add any necessary notes!
Once finished, click the Submit Delivery button. Once submitted, you will be able to view all deliveries requested on a single shipment.
That’s pretty much all there is to requesting a delivery on an inventory shipment! If you have any further questions, feel free to reach us anytime by clicking on the help chat in the bottom left of your screen. We’re always happy to help!
